One Equals All
Cut, slash, burn, and whip,
Us citizens of North Korea are in for a trip,
A one way ticket it is, to a gulag
For only those of us who commit the most “heinous” of crimes.
I forgot to thank the great leader,
Kim Jong-un, who “generously provides life to all,”
I am a man who loves another man,
And I worship my God of Christianity above even my leader.
This all led me to this camp,
Which includes children,
Punished for the “evil deeds” of their ancestors.
We are worked to death, starved, and beaten,
Humans we are not,
At least not to the guards,
Who must think only of how much pain to inflict.
Cut, slash, burn, and whip,
This is the last stop on our “deserved” trip.
Blind, blind, I can't see,
Why is this water being poured on me?
All I've done is worship my God,
Peace is what I stand for, please let me free.
My skin is the same as a few that have done bad
On the day of September 11th,
But it is also the same as millions who preach peace and love for all.
I don't know what you speak of,
I cannot tell you what you want,
I don't know what to do.
Please, stop this now
I beg of you.
Blind, blind, I can't see,
Why is water being poured on me?
I'm choking, I'm choking, please make it stop.
But in vain are my cries,
For silent they are.
If audible they were they would still do no good.
My heart is now still as petrified wood.
Help me, help me!
Mommy, where are you?
I awake in the night, in the cold, in fright.
I've forgotten how long ago you died,
Though it was right in front of my eyes.
I long for you, for dad, and my siblings,
I was supposed to be all that remained,
But a view of the world, of the truth, I have obtained
And so remain I do not for this is not a life;
Little hope remains
For all I can think of are the hundreds I've killed.
Their screams haunt me in my sleep,
Their faces follow me wherever I go,
I cannot escape them or the new ones I must kill,
All for the leader who I am bound to forever now.
If I try to leave I'll surely die.
All I can do is ask myself “Why?”
Destruction, violence, and torture plague the world
Not excluding any country, city, or state
For the location of the occurrence is irrelevant entirely,
If a human is tortured it is a problem for us all.
They are our brothers, sisters, children, and friends;
We are all related as human beings
And we must look out for each other.
What's going on in North Korea does not affect me,
Nor do Guantanamo prisoners or child soldiers either,
But look past yourself and you will see
That they all effect both you and me.
No one deserves these kinds of treatments,
But many must deal with it
And our lack of action is as devastating as the torturers themselves.
So donate your time, your money, your support
Or any combination of these please
To help victims of torture from all around the world
And show them that there is hope.
